Abstract
The purpose of this study was to study the student teachers’ competency in designing instruction using the process for enhancing student teachers’ competency in designing instruction through participating in the Professional Learning Community (PLC). This study was conducted in the first semester of the 2016 academic year in the Professional Practicum I course and the sample comprised 58 fourth-year student teachers of social studies. The research found that student teachers who learnt through the process as a member of the PLC had higher competency in designing instruction as follows. 1) After student teachers were a member of the PLC, the average score in instructional design knowledge was higher and is significantly higher than the knowledge before becoming the PLC members at a .05 level of significance. 2) Before student teachers become PLC members, the average score in instructional design ability was at the “Fair level” and after they were the member of the PLC, the average score in instructional design ability was at the “Good level.” 3) 100 percent of student teachers who were members of the PLC realized the importance of designing instruction at a very high level.
