The Development of Listening English Ability for Grade 1 Students Using Total Physical Response

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to develop grade 1 students’ listening ability in English
language by using the Total Physical Response Technique at least 70% of them passed the criterion of
70%, and 2) to study the students’ satisfaction with the learning activities based on the Total Physical
Response Technique . The target group consisted of 25 grade 1 students in Napochee Wittaya School
under the Office of Khon Kaen Primary Education Area 3, during the first semester of the 2016 academic
year. Data were analyzed for arithmetic mean, standard deviation, and percentage.
The research result found:
1) The students made a mean achievement score of 14.96 or 74.80% of the full marks in
English language listening ability, and 19 students or 76.00% of the group passed the criterion which
was higher than the prescribed criterion of 70/70.
2) The students expressed their satisfaction with the learning activities basing on the Total
Physical Response Technique , as a whole, at the “high” level.
