The Development of Grade 8 Students Reading Comprehension of Ability Using KWL Plus Together with DR-TA Technique

Abstract

The purposes of the present research were 1) to study the development of grade 8 students’
reading comprehension ability using KWL Plus together with DR-TA technique to gain their ability score
in reading comprehension ability averagely not less than 70% and the number of students passing
the standard not less than 70% of the total numbers; and 2) to study the students’ satisfaction using
KWL Plus and DR-TA. The target group consists of 16 Grade 8 students who enrolled in an English
course in the first semester of the academic year 2016 at Banphaisuksa School, Secondary Educational
Service Area Office 25. The instruments used in the study included 1) 8 English lesson plans 16 hours
based on KWL Plus together with DR-TA Technique. 2) The English reading comprehension test which
30 items and 3) The satisfaction test 25 items. The data collected were analyzed by arithmetic mean,
standard deviation, and percentage.
The findings:
1) The students made a mean score of 73.56 % on reading comprehension ability and 13
students (81.25%) passed the criterion of 70% which were higher than the prescribed criterion.
2) Most of the students’ satisfaction of using KWL Plus together with DR-TA Technique. were
rated at the highest level.
