The Development of Speaking English for Communication Ability of Grade 7 Students Using Task-Based Learning with Role Playing Activities

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to study 1) to study the development of grade 7
students’ speaking English for communication ability using Task-Based Learning with Role Playing
Activities to gain their ability score in speaking English for communication ability averagely not less
than 70% and the number of students passing the standard not less than 70% of the total numbers;
and 2) to study the students’ satisfaction using Task-Based Learning with Role Playing Activities.
The target group consists of 40 Grade 7 students at Nanongthumwittaya School, Secondary Educational
Service Area Office 30. The instruments used in the study included 1) 10 English lesson plans based
on Task-Based Learning with Role Playing Activities 2) The English speaking test which consisted of two
parts 11 items and 3) The satisfaction test 25 items. The data collected were analyzed by arithmetic
mean, standard deviation, and percentage.
The research result found:
1) The students made a mean score of 77.63% on Speaking English for Communication Ability
and 31 students (77.50%) passed the criterion of 70% which were higher than the prescribed criterion.
2) Most of the students’ satisfaction of using Task-Based Learning with Role Playing Activities
was rated at the highest level. (gif.latex?\bar{x}= 4.59)
