Abstract

This academic article aims to study and analyze the issue of IT workforce shortages in the banking industry in Thailand, which has become a critical problem in the digital era, where information technology is central to business operations. The shortage of IT professionals directly affects operational efficiency, competitiveness, and the innovation potential of financial organizations. This article examines the structural causes of IT workforce shortages, their resulting impacts, and systematic management approaches, drawing on System Thinking, Human Capital Theory and labor innovation management. It also presents case studies from both domestic and international banks and considers the role of cross-border professionals, such as digital nomads, who can help fill crucial skill gaps in the Thai banking industry. The findings suggest that addressing IT workforce shortages requires collaboration among the government, the private sector and educational institutions, along with investment in workforce skill development and technology to support sustainable operations.
