Total Quality Management Affecting the Production Process Efficiency in the Paper Packaging Industry in Bangkok and Perimeter

Abstract

This research consists purposes were 1. to compare the production process efficiency of the paper packaging industry in Bangkok and its metropolitan area, classified by organizational characteristics and 2. to study total quality management affecting the production efficiency of the paper packaging industry in Bangkok and its metropolitan area. This is quantitative research. The research instrument was a questionnaire, with a sample of 193 organizations, determined using the formula of Krejcie and Morgan (1970). The data collected from the questionnaires were then analyzed using descriptive statistics, including percentage, mean and standard deviation and inferential statistics (One-way ANOVA and Multiple Regression Analysis). The findings revealed that 1) Total Quality Management (TQM) overall was at a moderate level (x̅ = 3.41, S.D. = .425), with the dimension having the highest mean being supplier relationship management, in which management emphasized policy formulation to reduce waste and 2) The seven dimensions of Total Quality Management leadership involvement, employee involvement, customer focus, continuous improvement, process management, measurement and data analysis, and supplier relationship management could jointly explain 22% of the variation in production process efficiency in terms of the waste reduction rate (Adjusted R² = .220) at a statistically significant level of .01. The Total Quality Management factor that significantly affected production process efficiency in terms of the waste reduction rate at the .01 level was customer focus (β = .274).
