Development of a Design Thinking Activity Package to Enhance Social Innovation Capabilities of Social Education Students

Abstract

This research consists purposes were 1. to develop a design thinking activity package for enhancing social innovation capabilities among social education students, with an efficiency target of 80/80 and 2. to examine the students' social innovation capabilities after learning through the design thinking activity package. The study employed a research and development (R&D) methodology, using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research instruments consisted of the design thinking activity package, lesson plans and a social innovation capability assessment form. The target group was 29 Then, the data collected from the research tools were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including percentages, means, standard deviations, and efficiency according to the 80/80 criteria. The findings revealed that 1) The design thinking activity package demonstrated an efficiency of 86.50/87.20, which exceeded the set criterion and 2) The students' social innovation capabilities after the intervention were at a high level (x̅= 4.25, S.D. = 0.45). Among the assessed components, Identifying Social Problems received the highest mean score (x̅= 4.40), while Designing Solutions received the lowest (x̅= 4.12). The results indicate that the design thinking activity package is an effective tool for developing social innovation capabilities in Social Education students.
