Teaching Competencies of Physical Education Teachers Students According to Higher Education Standards the Faculty of Education Thailand National Sports University

Abstract

This research consists purposes were to examine the teaching practicum competencies in accordance with professional standards among physical education student-teachers of the Faculty of Education, Thailand National Sports University Mahasarakham Campus. This study employed a quantitative research approach. The research instrument was a competency assessment form for teaching practice in educational institutions, based on three professional standards learning management, relationships with parents and the community, and the performance and ethics of the teaching profession. The instrument was a five-point Likert scale. The sample group consisted of the entire population, including 62 physical education student teachers undertaking school practicum in the academic year 2023, 43 administrators, 55 mentor teachers and 11 university supervisors from the National Sports University. The data collected from the assessment form were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including mean and standard deviation. The results showed that teaching practicum competencies in teaching practicum, ranked from highest to lowest mean score, were performance of teaching duties and professional ethics was rated at a high level (x̅= 4.17, S.D. = .110), relationships with parents and the community were rated at a high level (x̅= 3.90, S.D. = .117) and learning management were rated at a high level (x̅= 3.87, S.D. = .212). Teaching practicum competencies in all domains are essential. Teacher education institutions must ensure that these competencies align with the established professional standards.
