The Development of Database System for Ethnic Identities to Promote Tourism by Geographic Information System by Communities: Ban Mae Jam of Mueang Pan District Ban Cham Pui of Mae Moh District and Ban Pong Nam Ron of Serm Ngam District Lampang Province.

Abstract

The purposes of this study were 1. to appropriately develop the Ethnic Identity Database System to promote tourism with the geographic information system (GIS) at Ban Mae Jam of Mueang Pan District, Ban Cham Pui of Mae Moh District and Ban Pong Nam Ron of Serm Ngam District, Lampang Province according to the users’ requirements and 2. to store and disseminate the ethnic identity information to promote community-based tourism. This research was a combination of qualitative and quantitative research. The research tools were interview form, small group meeting recording form, observation form, system satisfaction assessment form. The sample consisted of 60 people who came from a specific selection. The data collected from the questionnaire were analyzed using descriptive statistics consisting of percentage, mean, standard deviation. and using the information gathered from the interview form Sub-group meeting minutes, observation form, content analysis. The results showed that 1) the Ethnic Identity Database System comprised position coordinates of attractions, ethnic identity database, story database, local scholar database, local tradition database, tourist attraction/activity database, food/accommodation database, OTOP product database, press release database, photo gallery and event calendar database. Each database contained title, home page details, details, homepage image, illustration for document files and website link.  In general use, general users can express ideas and hit Like and Share buttons of information or images via the Facebook. And 2) Furthermore, storage and dissemination of ethnic identity information to promote community-based tourism were found that the communities jointly selected 20 people in the communities to be system administrators consisting of youths and community leaders. Representative members receiving knowledge transfer could manage to add and edit dissemination of ethnic identity information to promote tourism in their communities.  When evaluating system usage, it revealed that system users in all 3 villages were satisfied with the Ethnic Identity Database System to promote tourism with the geographic information system (GIS) at high level, including Ban Mae Jam having average of (x̅= 4.24) Ban Cham Pui having average of (x̅= 4.32) and Ban Pong Nam Ron having average of (x̅= 4.30)
