PROTECTION OF THE RIGHTS OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Abstract

      The academic article "Protection of the rights of persons with disabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic" aims to present the situation of persons with disabilities with the spread of the COVID-19 disease, measures to protect the rights of persons with disabilities in international, and measures to protect the rights of persons with disabilities in Thailand. The study of measures to protect the rights of persons with disabilities in international was found that the issues that should be considered when making plans or taking any action related to persons with disabilities so that persons with disabilities are truly protected. These are ideas to consider: 1) Make sure that persons with disabilities have a big say in all plans about Covid-19.  2) Make sure all plans about Covid-19 include persons with disabilities and can be used to perform well for persons with disabilities.  3) Make sure persons with disabilities get everything they need during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.  4) Make sure that all persons with disabilities are treated fairly. Persons with disabilities should not be left out or treated badly. Moreover, the study of measures to protect the rights of persons with disabilities in Thailand was found that Government agencies have released policies to assist and remedy persons with disabilities. Every action taken was good policy. However, some programs and operations for persons with disabilities obstacles to accessing organized services are still encountered. Therefore, in order to protect the rights of persons with disabilities both during and after the COVID-19 pandemic situation. Thailand should implement international laws and instruments that protect the rights of persons with disabilities to be a guideline to implement and create a good plan for people with disabilities in order to ensure that persons with disabilities receive equal protection of their rights and eliminate obstacles that arise with them. Furthermore, to guarantee that persons with disabilities will not be left behind.
