Abstract

      The academic article "Political Communication and Political Discourse in Thai Society" aims to present the following issues: 1) What are the characteristics of Thai political communication? 2) What is the Thai political discourse? and 3) The important role of political discourse in Thai society through the process of political communication. According to Issue 1), there were found characteristics of political communication from the past to the present. In the past, there was not much advancement in technology in Thai society. The channels of communication of information are usually unidirectional. It is a one-way communication from political organizations to people whereby the people have no part in expressing their opinions on the information previously known, while the current political communication will be in the form of information exchange between the political parties and the people. It is two-way communication, with the media and social media channels as the center of information transmission. Issue 2), It was found that political communication of Thai political organizations through political discourse was crucial in determining human thoughts, beliefs, values, and attitudes. Political discourse is a political activity that affects both thought and action simultaneously. And issue 3) found the important role of political discourse through the political communication process in Thai society. Political discourse plays an important role and is an essential factor in promoting people's political participation. Concurrently, citizens are free to choose to receive information freely and depend on interpreting political decisions according to their requirements.
