SOCIAL ENTERPRISES FOR SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

This article aimed to describe social enterprise for social development in Thai context. So, it was to clarify meaning and operation of social enterprises in the time of various understanding and defining. Concept of social enterprise emerged in Western countries especially United Kingdom. It had presented a case study of a social enterprise that was strengthen in the operation of the business in ​​Sa Kaeo Province. Three of case studies were Thammachart handmade textile (Thammachat Pha Tho Mue), Thab Thim Siam 05 herbal processing community enterprise (Wisahakit Chumchon Praerup Samunphrai Thab Thim Sayam 05), and Tham Ma Dee aromatic herbal community enterprise (Wisahakit Chumchon Khruang Hom Muang Sa Kaeo Tham Ma Dee). Although all case studies can define as SEs but they have difference management in operation. The main point of being a social enterprise in addition to generating income was social and environmental goals.
