A MODEL FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THAI LANGUAGE TEACHERS’ CHARACTERISTICS IN THE TWENTIETH-FIRST CENTURY

Abstract

The objective of the research were 1) to analyze teacher characteristic of Thai language teachers in the twentieth-first century,  2) to develop a model for characteristic development of  Thai language teachers in the twentieth-first century and 3) to purpose the characteristic development model of  Thai language teachers in the twentieth-first century.  It was a qualitative research analyzing by Content Analysis and in-depth interview questions with Focus Group.   


              The results were:


  1. 1. The teacher characteristic of Thai language teachers in the twentieth-first century consisted of 3 components; 1. attitude and values which there were 4 characteristics : 1) Learners are the center of learning, 2) Teacher characteristics, 3) supporting personnel in vocational and community subjects, 4) Having a mind, maintaining the Thai heritage, and preserving Thai language; 2. skills which there were 6 characteristics: 1) skills in teaching a variety of techniques for transferring, 2) Thai language skills - using of language for communication knowledge, 3) innovation skills - using technology as materials teaching, 4) applying psychology skills for teaching, 5) measuring skills and evaluating learning that were consistent with different between learners, 6) creative thinking and problem solving skills ; 3. knowledge and ability which there were 8 characteristics: 1) knowledge-expertise in Thai language content, listening, speaking, reading and writing, 2) Psychological knowledge for teachers-knowing and understanding learners, 3) knowledge in organizing learning activities-practicing thinking process skills,4) knowledge about the curriculum content in teaching, 5) knowledge of teaching Thai language subjects integrated in teaching and learning-by focusing on enhancing knowledge and the ability of learners, 6) multicultural knowledge-knowing the changes of the world, 7) knowledge of Thai language learning measurement and evaluation, 8) Knowledge of using media in teaching to choose the technology appropriately.

  2. 2. The development a model for the characteristic development of Thai language teachers in the twentieth-first century comprised 2 parts: 1) 3 development objectives, namely, attitude and values, skills, and knowledge and ability, 2) 3 development methods in terms of attitude and values, skills, and knowledge and ability.
