บทคัดย่อ
จากการขยายตัวของเมืองหลวงอย่างกรุงเทพมหานคร ส่งผลกระทบต่อการพัฒนาพื้นที่อนุรักษ์ย่านเกาะรัตนโกสินทร์ ซึ่งประกอบไปด้วยอาคารโบราณสถานหลายหลังด้วยกัน รวมถึงอาคารโรงพิมพ์บำรุงนุกูลกิจที่สร้างขึ้นตั้งแต่ พ.ศ. 2438 ในรัชสมัยพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว เพื่อรองรับการปฏิรูประบบการศึกษาไทยครั้งแรก แม้ปัจจุบันอาคารหลังนี้ได้รับการขึ้นทะเบียนเป็นโบราณสถานโดยกรมศิลปากรมาตั้งแต่ พ.ศ. 2542 แต่กลับถูกทิ้งร้าง ทำให้อาคารมีสภาพทรุดโทรมและขาดการบำรุงรักษาอย่างเหมาะสม บทความนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อถ่ายทอดแนวทางการออกแบบเชิงอนุรักษ์และพัฒนาด้วยการปรับประโยชน์ใช้สอยอาคารใหม่ ผ่านกรณีศึกษาอาคารโรงพิมพ์บำรุงนุกูลกิจ โดยใช้กระบวนการวิจัยสู่การทดลองออกแบบงานสถาปัตยกรรม เริ่มจากการศึกษาแนวคิดการอนุรักษ์และพัฒนาอาคารทางประวัติศาสตร์ ทฤษฎีการปรับประโยชน์ใช้สอยในสถาปัตยกรรม การประเมินคุณค่าและความสำคัญของอาคารกรณีศึกษา การเก็บข้อมูลสำรวจรังวัดอาคารด้วยสแกนเนอร์เลเซอร์สามมิติ และการวิเคราะห์ผังบริเวณจากอดีตถึงปัจจุบัน รวมถึงการจัดทำรายละเอียดโครงการและสังเคราะห์สู่งานออกแบบสถาปัตยกรรมประเภทโรงแรมเชิงผสมผสานย่านอนุรักษ์ ผลการศึกษา พบว่า แนวคิดสำคัญสำหรับการอนุรักษ์และพัฒนาอาคารทางประวัติศาสตร์โดยภาคเอกชน ให้สัมพันธ์กับการปรับประโยชน์ใช้สอยใหม่ คือ การรักษาสมดุลระหว่างคุณค่าทางศิลปวัฒนธรรม สิ่งแวดล้อม และเศรษฐกิจชุมชนของย่านประวัติศาสตร์ให้สามารถขับเคลื่อนไปพร้อม ๆ กันได้จริงในอนาคต
