The purpose of this qualitative research is to explore and compare the meanings of love that appear in genres of Thai films and analyze the signification process of love in Thai films. The research examined 27 Thai films that can be categorized into seven genres. Qualitative method was employed under narrative and semiotic frameworks. Textual analysis and in-depth interview are used as research tools.

The results show that the term ùloveû in Thai films is defined in variousways. In romance (love), drama, comedy, musical and teen films, ùloveû is defined in a positive way, focusing on the components of love and love suggestion. Mean while, in action and horror films, ùloveû is interpreted in different aspects, focusing on the suffering of love, tragedy and loss. These genres also show the negative parts of love and suggest that love doesnût always end with happiness. In addition, the findings reveal that ùloveû can appear in every film genre while the genres can sometimes control the tone of love. The signification process of ùloveû in T h a i films is concerned with four important factors: film narrative, creators, visuals and soundtracks.
