Abstract
Information Communication Technology based Sedentary Behavior among Net-Generation Population
Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) have exerted both positive and negative impact on net-generation populations. ICT also facilitates information exchange and communication between business actors; on the other hand, it can potentially cause several health problems. In particular, large amount of sedentary time – i.e., spending time using ICTs – increases the risk for many diseases such as obesity and diabetes. The objectives of this study are to examine information communication technology based sedentary behavior, perceived peer influence, and perceived self-efficacy toward the limit use of information communication technology among net-generation population. The quantitative method was employed in this study. An online survey was conducted among 412 respondents who were classified as net-generation population. The results found that the majority of respondents have a sedentary lifestyle. The average time of sitting and spending time with smartphone, laptop, tablet, Facebook, Line, and Instagram was about 5.55 hours on weekdays and 6.15 hours on weekend. Low level of perceived self-efficacy toward the limit use of ICT and high level of perceived peer influence toward use of Facebook, Line and Instagram and this factor were significantly associated with the sedentary behavior.
