Abstract

The Instructional Resources Center has been established for supporting education and research at Ubonrachatani university. This center has been servicing a modern automatic library with VTLS software since 1991. However, a process of the system still has got some problems of the service and a information searching software; with this cause, it was made a low of efficient service and the center has not reached to the satisfaction point. The purpose of this research was to study a state and the problems of the information searching of the students who used services of the center. The results of this study would be used for creating multimedia learning system which would help students step by step to search and use the VTLS. Moreover, the research was to examine the satisfaction of the users.

The research was divided into 2 periods; the first, studying a state and the problems of the information searching of the students who used services of the center, then bring the results of the first period to create and test the multimedia learning system and examine in the second period. The sample group was separated to 2 parts; the first part, to study the state and problems; and the second part, to test the system. There were 269 students of the bachelor degree who were collected randomly by year of study. The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire on state and problems of the VTLS usage. with a reliability of .82; the multimedia learning system; a questionnaire on the evaluation of the multimedia learning system with or reliability of .84; and a questionnaire on the satisfaction with a reliability of .88; The percentage, mean, standard deviation were used for data analyses.

The results were as follows : in the first period, the state and problems of information searching as a whole and in each item were at a high level, except for one item no understanding of the result of information search on the screen, was at a moderate level. In the second period, development and determining the efficiency including examining satisfaction with media usages. The results of development showed that the system can solve the problem of information searching as a whole and in each item at a high level. The users indicated satisfaction with media usage as a whole and in each item at a high level, except for four items which were at the highest level : prominent, interesting and beautiful letter color; prominent, interesting and beautiful background color; sequence of presentation; and the most appropriate size of letters.

In summary, the multimedia learning system can help the users search and give services in information data at the Instructional Resources Center, Ubonrachatani university. They are efficient learning media in the areas of content, presentation, picture/sound and the language usage, and design of screen. The students showed satisfaction with using the multimedia at the more level. The students can search information data as required.
