Abstract

The objectives of the research on “The aesthetics and decorative techniques of Dangyangyu Kiln's Jiao Tai porcelain in Henan Province during the Song Dynasty to Design contemporary ceramics” were to study the historical background of Dangyangyu Kiln's Jiao Tai porcelain culture during the Song Dynasty, to analyze technical, aesthetics and cultural connotations of Dangyangyu Kiln's Jiao Tai porcelain culture during the Song Dynasty, and to design Jiao Tai contemporary ceramics in order to inherit and create them. According to literature review, field study, and interviews with involved experts. The Jiao Tai porcelain from Dangyangyu Kiln in the Song Dynasty originated in the Tang Dynasty and flourished during the Song Dynasty. During the Song period, it became a distinctive type of ceramic among the many ceramic arts in the region, and it was also a special ceramic craft that emerged in the Central Plains of China during the Song Dynasty.Jiao Tai porcelain was an innovative product from the Dangyangyu kiln, designed to meet the competitive demands of the booming commercial economy and the aesthetic preferences of society during the Song Dynasty. The 4 styles of aesthetics of Dangyanyu Kiln's Jiao Tai porcelain culture during the Song Dynasty were acknowledged, i.e., orderly beauty, symmetrical beauty, natural beauty, and living beauty. Innovations in the contemporary age include earth material innovation, form innovation, decorative innovation, and technical innovation. As a consequence, the research obtained a creative idea that led to the 2 sets of created aesthetic works, which combined the decorative style of Dangyangyu Kiln's Jiao Tai porcelain culture during the Song Dynasty with contemporary decorations.
