Inscriptions and Interpretation on Imperial Kiln Porcelains in Ming and Qing Dynasty: Management of Permanent Exhibition in the Museum

Abstract

The research on “Inscriptions and Interpretation on Imperial Kiln Porcelains in Ming and Qing Dynasty: Management of Permanent Exhibition in the Museum” aimed to study the background, historical development, and the identity of inscriptions on imperial kiln porcelains in Ming and Qing Dynasty; and to analyze semantics and influences of inscriptions on porcelains. The objectives were to create the prototypes and the permanent exhibition model of porcelains with inscriptions in the museum; leading to guidelines for creating  collaboration from external agencies to transfer the culture of porcelains with inscriptions to public. The data was collected by documentary research, field work, interviews, and the questionnaire to analyze semantics and the values of inscriptions. According to the results, the obtained body of knowledge about the development and the identity of inscriptions on imperial kiln porcelains in Ming and Qing Dynasty was used to design the route, contents, objects, and other components at permanent exhibition of porcelains with inscriptions in Jingdezhen Ceramic University’s museum.
