Art, Communication and Culture in Isan Short Films

Abstract

This research article is qualitative research together with quantitative research aims to explore: 1) the genre and the content or theme, 2) factors characteristics, codes, and


meanings are important in the artistic dimension, communication dimension, and cultural dimensions that appear in Isan short films. Using semiotics theory and principles related to film as a research conceptual framework. Content Analysis and Textual Analysis were used by using the work of Isan short films, a total of 30 samples, passed the content conformity assessment from research and media experts. The confidence value was at the mean level of 0.89 and the research tool was the data analysis form. Those who passed the Content Conformity Assessment had a mean confidence level of 0.97.     The results of the research found that Isan short films had 1) Genre, which was the drama, the most, accounting for 56.6 percent; 2) The theme, which reflected family problems, was the most, accounting for 33.3 percent.


Isan short film in the artistic dimension, it was found that there were important factors, characteristics, codes and meanings as follows: 1) on the actor side, the most important actors were villagers, accounting for 76.6 percent; is the role of using mobile phones and computers for conveying the point of the story as much as possible accounted for 33.3%, found that the important factor is that the actors and the acting are still lacking skills or not enough acting skills to perform the roles. 3) frame of shots, it was found that a close-up frame the most, representing 43.3%, 4) using a low angle shot to create the most interesting artistic images, accounting for 23.3%, 5) Photography techniques. Silhouette photography is used. To convey beauty and artistic meaning the most, representing 10 percent and 6) Editing, it was found that cut-cuts were the most used, accounting for 86.6%.


Isan short films in the communication dimension found that there were factors, characteristics, coding and meanings in order to convey meanings according to the subject matter in the story at the surface or simplistic level. can be easily understood Don't hit the complex Through frame of shots, and camera angles as follows: 1) Through the use of the close-up frame the most, representing 43.3%, 2) using the low-angle shot the most,


representing 23.3 percent, and 3) had conversations in Isan language. The most common was 93.3 percent, followed by 66.6 percent of the conversation in the central Thai language. It was also found that there were factors, characteristics, code making and important meanings. in the artistic dimension together with the communication dimension through the use of image distance and camera angles as well


Isan short films in the cultural dimension, it was found that the factors, characteristics, codes and meanings used to represent the identity of Isan culture were 1) sound in the form of: 1.1) Isan dialect at 93.3 percent, 1.2) Khaen tones. up to 33.3%, and 1.3) Isan music and music 30%, by Isan language dialogue It is the main factor that plays a very important role in identifying Isan cultural identity in Isan short films.
