The Study of Ancient “Bang Fai” Rocket and Application of Its Design Identity for Home Decoration Products Aiming at Western Tourists in Bangkok

Abstract

The research purpose is to design cultural style home décor for western tourists in Bangkok area. The design is partly based on ancient Bang Fai festival identity which utilize handicraft skills of the locals in Bang Fai festival area. According to the survey from western tourists, home decors that have cultural identity, handcrafted with good materials, being designed in contemporary style with suitable size and weight for transportation are popular among western tourists. The researcher designed a cultural style home decor which conform with behavior of westerners. The product satisfaction was surveyed from 3 experts with different expertise which are expert in commercial product design, expert in cultural style product design and expert in jointly design with locals. The product satisfaction was “very satisfied”. In conclusion, the cultural style home décor is able satisfy users and it can be further developed as product design guidelines for the community in the future.
