Exploration of the Aesthetic Elements and Visual Order of the Cultural Landscape in Tanhualin

Abstract

Taking the Tanhualin Historical and Cultural Block as the research object, this paper systematically explores the aesthetic elements of its cultural landscape and the paths of visual order. It aims to address two core issues. First, existing studies focus more on static historical protection or economic activation. They lack the systematic integration of aesthetic elements and historical culture, and fail to construct a complete logical chain from aesthetic identification to path implementation. Second, the cultural communication and public learning functions of historical blocks have not been fully explored. There is a lack of spatial organization schemes that balance visual experience and cultural narrative. This paper examines the historical background of the ancient Wuchang City of China. It conducts a detailed analysis of typical buildings such as Chongzhen Church and Renji Hospital. Based on this, the paper summarizes core aesthetic characteristics including material expression and detailed craftsmanship, and reveals the structural significance of visual anchors and spatial order. Compared with existing research, the innovations of this study lie in two aspects. First, it constructs a core framework of "aesthetic elements-visual order-cultural learning", establishes a mechanism for node selection and serialization, and transforms principles such as topographic visibility and accessibility into operable path construction schemes. Second, it innovatively introduces coding analysis and standardized interview methods to enhance the scientificity and empirical support of the research. Combining literature research, field surveys, coding analysis and interview methods, the study provides a theoretical basis and practical reference for the spatial optimization and cultural narrative of historical blocks.​
