The Song Dynasty represents a pinnacle in the development of Chinese art, during which landscape painting—having evolved through the Tang and Five Dynasties periods—reached an unprecedented level of sophistication. Song landscape painting not only established a systematic and distinctive spatial language in its formal composition, but also embodied profound philosophical meaning and aesthetic spirit. This study takes the spatial theory of Song Dynasty landscape painting as a point of departure and, through an interdisciplinary lens, examines its application within contemporary installation art, particularly in the context of exhibition design. By analyzing selected contemporary cases, the research elucidates how the spatial aesthetics of Song landscape painting contribute to enriching exhibition formats and enhancing viewer immersion. Moreover, the integration of traditional Song aesthetics into contemporary installations revitalizes classical Chinese artistic values within a modern context, thereby expanding the cultural depth and philosophical dimension of installation art today.
