Research on the Development and Utilization of Chinese Cultural Landscape Resources in Chinatown under the Context of International Chinese Education

A Case Study of Yaowarat Chinatown

Abstract

With the rapid development of international Chinese education, language learning has become increasingly intertwined with cultural understanding. Bangkok’s Chinatown, as an important cultural hub of the Chinese community in Thailand, not only preserves the historical heritage of Chinese culture but also embodies the multicultural integration of Chinese and Thai traditions. As such, it represents a valuable cultural landscape resource for Chinese language teaching.

This paper adopts a human geography perspective to analyze the Chinese cultural landscape of Bangkok’s Chinatown, and explores its educational value, feasibility, and practical approaches for integration into Chinese language instruction. The findings indicate that incorporating cultural resources from Bangkok’s Chinatown into teaching can enhance Thai students’ cultural awareness and intercultural communication competence. Moreover, it enriches the cultural dimension of Chinese teaching and supports the localization and contextualization of Chinese language education.
