Abstract

Based on his special growth environment and political thinking, Hu Shi was particularly concerned about women's freedom. When studying in the U.S.A. (1910-1917), he contacted and interacted with such American women as Edith Clifford Williams and the “New women” and thus felt and appreciated their free and independent personalities and the American spirit of freedom, which led to the important change of his ideas to liberalism.
