The Management Models for Small and Medium-Sized Clothing Enterprises Aimed at Enhancing Competitive Advantage in Jiangxi Province, China

Abstract

          This research aimed to study the following objectives: (1) to study the importance of knowledge management, marketing capability, product innovation, information technology, and competitive advantage of Small and medium-sized enterprises in Jiangxi Province, China; (2) To analyze the relationship structure of knowledge management, marketing capability, product innovation, and information technology affecting the competitive advantage of Small and medium-sized enterprises in Jiangxi Province, China, and (3) To propose a management model for small and medium-sized clothing enterprises to achieve a competitive advantage. The sample group consists of entrepreneurs from small and medium-sized clothing enterprises in Jiangxi Province. Data were collected using questionnaires administered to a sample group of 400 participants and through in-depth interviews with 26 relevant stakeholders. The data collected from the first sample group were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with the AMOS software. The interview data were analyzed using content analysis.
          The research results found that (1) the level of importance in knowledge management was at the highest level, followed by marketing capability, product innovation, information technology, and competitive advantage at a high level. (2) The results of the analysis of the relationship structure found that knowledge management affected product innovation, knowledge management affected information technology, marketing capability affected product innovation, information technology affected product innovation, marketing capability affected competitive advantage, product innovation influenced competitive advantage, and information technology affected competitive advantage, respectively. (3) Based on the analysis, the appropriate model for managing medium and small-sized enterprises in the clothing category for competitive advantage is SME “BCG CPMIK”.
