The Approach to Development of Cultural Tourism in the Area of Plai Phraya Sub-district in Plai Phraya District of Krabi Province

Abstract

         The objectives of this research were to 1) examine the potential of cultural tourist attractions in Plai Phraya Subdistrict, Plai Phraya District, Krabi Province; 2) propose a guideline for the development of cultural tourist attractions in Plai Phraya Subdistrict, Plai Phraya District, Krabi Province. The study is qualitative, with 34 key informants from four groups: 1) two from the subdistrict administrative organizations, 2) five official community representatives, 3) 19 nonformal community representatives, and 4) eight tourists and accommodation entrepreneurs. Data was collected from in-depth semi-structural individual interviews, surveys, and participative and non-participative observation. Key informants were selected from stakeholders in the PlaiPhraya Subdistrict to provide suggestions and exchange ideas about cultural tourist attraction development.
          The study found that regarding the potential for the development of cultural tourist attractions, only two villages had the potential for the development of cultural tourist attractions: Village No. 1 or Ban Pak Nam, and Village No. 6 or Ban Bang Hian. There were five guidelines for cultural attraction development in Plai Phraya Subdistrict: 1) the guideline based on value consciousness; 2) the guideline based on accessibility; 3) the guideline based on amenities; 4) the guideline based on environment; 5) the guideline based on tourist capacity.
