Abstract

Background: Structured information provision is crucial when implementing standard practices in healthcare. This involves providing care to patients throughout the entire process, starting from the preoperative stage, during surgery, and after surgery. Complete physical, mental, and social care must be provided to patients to ensure their well-being. Failure to prepare patients adequately for surgery or to provide them with structured information can result in patients not being able to behave appropriately or cooperate with the surgery. Providing structured information before surgery can significantly reduce patient anxiety and help them better understand the procedure.
Objectives: To compare the level of knowledge and anxiety in individuals who have had thyroid surgery before and after undergoing structured information programs to prepare for the procedure.
Methods: This study conducted a quasi-experimental research to compare the levels of knowledge and anxiety in individuals who underwent thyroid surgery. The study involved the use of a one-group pretest-posttest design, where participants received structured information programs to prepare for surgery before and after the surgery.
Results: The average knowledge score of patients who received a structured information provision program before undergoing thyroid surgery was statistically significantly higher than those who did not receive such a program. Similarly, the anxiety levels of patients who received the program were significantly lower than those who did not receive it, indicating the effectiveness of structured information provisioning. The difference in scores between the two groups was statistically significant with p < 0.01
Conclusion: Implementing structured informational programs for patients preparing for thyroid surgery reduces anxiety and improves knowledge retention.
