Developing Innovation for Academic Article Format for Publication

Abstract

          The objectives of this article were to 1) study the current condition, problems, and needs of innovation development for preparation of academic article formats for publication, 2) to analyze factors affecting the quality of the preparation of academic article formats for publication, and 3) to develop the innovation for preparation of academic article formats for publication. It was achieved by research and development (R&D) using the Design Thinking as a research framework. There were 5 steps; Step 1 Understanding the target group or actual users (Empathize), Step 2 Identifying the problems or issues (Define), Step 3 Brainstorming (Ideate), Step 4 Creating a prototype (Prototype), and Step 5 Testing the prototype (Test).
The sample group (target group/group of key informants) included: editors, editorial board, authors, and journal staff, totaling 40 people with a purposive selection method. The research instruments consisted of 1) questionnaire, 2) interview, 3) focus group interview, 4) innovation assessment, and 5) satisfaction assessment. The data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, percentage, and content analysis and writing a descriptive narrative.
          The research results were as follows:
          1. The result of objective 1, it was found that the article submission process was quite detailed in every step. The details of each journal's article format were different, which required careful study and viewing of examples.
          2. The result of objective 2, it was found that the main factors that affected the quality of articles were 1) Limitation of time period for authors to submit their articles— the rush made it impossible to study the documents and understand the article formats of each journal. 2) Misunderstanding of the different formats specified by each journal.
          3. The result of objective 3, the users were satisfied with the innovation for preparation of academic article formats at the highest level. Also, the innovation was developed according to the C-E-C-E Model.
