Comparative Study on Normalizations of Thai and Chinese

Abstract

         This academic article aims to study the comparative analysis of the conversion of Thai and Chinese nominalizations. Thai and Chinese words are single words that do not have a word form. But in Thai and Chinese, there is a linguistic term known as nominalization, which refers to a process of creation of nouns from verbs and adjectives, Those words will become nouns. This study of translated found that Thai and Chinese nominalizations have similarities, and at the same time with some differences. The first difference is the classification of words. In Thai language, nominalization can be considered as a noun, while in Chinese language it does not have a clear classification. The second difference is the way the nominalization is created. In Thai, the morphemes “kaan” and “khwaam” to convert verbs or adjectives into nouns, while in Chinese“的” is used after verbs and adjectives. The third difference is the function of nominalization in a sentence. In Thai, the nominalization serves as a subject of a sentence, however, in Chinese the subject and object in a sentence cannot be represented by a nominalization. This article will help us understand the classification of nominalization in Thai and Chinese languages, characteristics of them, including the difference in creation and word function in Thai and Chinese sentences. Hopefully, this study will be useful for Thai students in studying Chinese and for Chinese students who are to learn Thai.
