Cooking Vocabulary and Thai’s Consumption Cultural: Incasing Gleep Mahithorn’s Recipes -

Abstract

          This research explores terms referring to cooking methods and preparation, and, eating culture of Thai People, appearing in Kleeb Mahidhorn’s cookbook and food preparation recipes for traditional Thai fruits, appetizers and snacks.  It aims at studying the development, evolution and changes of the use of the terms involving in the food consumption culture in the book.  The researcher collected all relevant terms in the book, categorized and analysed them to see how the book and the terms have reflected Thais’ eating habits and culture. The results of the study revealed that the cookbook presented terms referring to cooking and food prepartion methods and was worth investigating its language use, narrative style, and content presentation.  It was also found that the book reflected different forms of Thai culture, namely, consumption culture and eating habits, local wisdom and indigenous knowledge dissemination, diet and meal setting culture, and economic culture.
