Abstract

Health education instructors earn specific roles in developing learners in acquiring
knowledge, attitudes and life skills based on being healthy. Especially at present, ina
world where communication has never been so elaborate, media for the purpose of learning
is an important tool to enhance the learning process as well as promote oneself in particular
aspects. Types of media are defined into 3 categories: 1) publication media, 2) technological
media, 3) others which are human being, nature and environment, learning activity, equipment
and instrument. Because of the variety of media and other materials, health education
instructors must select the most appropriate media and materials that meet the curriculum
and, most importantly, the learning of the students. Moreover, the student-centered approach
is still the core concept of education. The sample of learning process which is addressed in
this study is that of the backward design approach and is used with the subject çInformation
for healthé by the 5E learning cycle. The students focused on analytical thinking,
critical thinking, and learning by doing on the topic of çNews and Information on Healthé.
It is clear that to achieve the goal of acquiring health education knowledge, the instructors
must first acquire the knowledge, use the appropriate media and materials, and provide
interesting lessons adhering to the learning process. This will enhance the studentsû
knowledge and attitudes toward being healthy which may lead them to apply the knowledge
in their daily lives which should promote being healthy and skilled citizens.
