The purposes of this research were to examine learning achievement and learning growth scores of Peer Assisted Learning (PAL). The subjects were 45 graduate nursing students registered to study a scale development course. The simple random sampling was used to assign students from class section 1 and 2 into experimental or control groups. Thirty students from class section 1 were assigned to be an experimental group using PAL method and fifteen students from class section 2 were assigned to be a control group using traditional teaching method. Study instruments were teaching plans with PAL, traditional teaching method and knowledge test on a scale development contents. The reliability of knowledge test was 0.77. Data were analyzed by using mean, standard deviation and t-test.
The results showed that: 1) the post-learning achievement scores of an experimental group were significantly higher than the post-learning achievement scores of a control group at confidence level of .05. 2) The post-learning achievement scores of experimental students were significantly higher than the pre-learning achievement scores at confidence level of .05. 3) The learning growth scores of an experimental group were significantly higher than the learning growth scores of a control group at confidence level of .05.
The results of this study indicate that peer assisted learning can increase learning achievement and learning growth scores of students. Thus, it is suggested that PAL should be applied to use for other subjects as well.
