ORGANIZING FIELD TRIP, DISCIPLINE-BASED ART EDUCATION, AESTHETICAbstract
Aesthetic is the sense of appreciation of beauty, whether it comes from nature or art pieces. The sense of appreciation can be developed by experience, learning, and training until the sense has become internalized and turned into a taste, which varies for each individual. Aesthetic is a fundamental value of human beings; therefore, aesthetic education is necessary for primary school students who need to have valuable experience and a foundation in order to grow up to be quality individuals with the sense of aesthetic. Discipline-based art education integrates 4 branches of knowledge including art history, art practice, art criticism, and aesthetic, all of which are important aspects of students’ development. Moreover, a field trip can encourage students to gain aesthetic experience and let them observe and survey the environment around them with the use of all 5 senses, bringing about meaningful learning, developing thorough thinking process, and stimulating aesthetic appreciation. The organization of a field trip in conjunction with discipline-based arts education on aesthetic support of primary school students consists of the following steps: 1) planning and development of the field trip activities, 2) surveying the area, 3) planning about the details of outdoor activities, 4) developing materials and tools to be used in the activities, 5) organizing activities to provide the background knowledge of the individuals and place before the field trip, 6) implementing the plan and schedule, and 7) making a conclusion, an assessment, and a result report, in order to improve the following programs.
