LIFE AND CAREER SKILLS, ONLINE SCALE, CONSTRUCT VALIDITYAbstract
This study attempted to create a measurement model of life and career skills, develop
an online scale together with investigating the psychometric property of the scale. In
addition, the study also explored the life and career skills conditions of the primary
students. The participants consisted of 11 experts and 646 primary students from
multi-stage random sampling. Classical test theory, multidimensional item response
theory and confirmatory factor analysis were used for data analysis. The finding
concluded that the life and career skills model comprised 5 factors: 1) flexibility and
adaptability; 2) initiative and self-direction; 3) social and cross-cultural skills; 4) productivity and accountability; and 5) leadership and responsibility. The situation judgments test format was designed for 22 items of an online scale that the video clips were used to present the situations with questions and multiple-choice options. The measurement model had construct validity with statistical value of X2 = 50.302, df = 37, p = 0.0711, CFI = 0.990, TLI = 0.986, RMSEA = 0.024, SRMR = 0.025. The classical test theory analysis indicated a discrimination power index of 0.1441 to 0.5233, a difficulty of 0.42 to 0.88 with .818 of reliability. The multidimensional item response theory analysis showed
0.29 to 3.04 of discrimination power parameter and -2.01 to 1.31 of difficulty parameter.
This meant that the scale was an intermediate level of discrimination power and difficulty
with high reliability. Moreover, the exploring of life and career skills level of the primary
students was at the high level.
