The Development of the Desirable Characteristics of a Thai Classical Music Teacher in the Higher Education Level: The Case of Kru Samran Kerdphol, National Artist, is qualitative research which aims to develop the desirable characteristics of a Thai classical music teacher in higher education level with the national artist Kru Samran Kerdphol as a model teacher. The researcher continues on from the research entitled ‘An Analysis of the Thai Classical Music Teacher’s Identity of Kru Samran Kerdphol, National Artist’. The list of the desirable characteristics of the Thai classical music teacher in higher education level was synthesised.
The results show that the desirable characteristics of the Thai classical music teacher in the higher education level have been categorized into 4 aspects: 1) wisdom, 2) mind, 3) body, and 4) society. There are 10 items of characteristics with the brief details as follows: 1) Have knowledge – have general and in-depth detail knowledge, have vocational and information technology skills; 2) Think wisely – think thoughtfully, creatively and developmentally, able to solve problems, able to integrate knowledge and able to self-assess; 3) Desire for learning – never stop to learn and improve yourself; 4) Insist on virtue and morality – be well-behaved, live your life and other’s with virtue, be the giver without any return and be grateful 5) Abide by the code of ethics of the teaching profession – be an ethical teacher; 6) Be voluntary-minded and have public recognition – be dedicated to the teaching profession and society; 7) Have well-being – take care of your own mind and dress properly; 8) Have good social skills – be a good speaker, good listener, good doer, able to self-regulate emotions and be punctual; 9) Have good leadership – have good vision, have good management skill and be selfless; 10) Maintain the Thai identity amidst globalization – be a conserver and a developer simultaneously.
