Abstract
This article aimed to 1) study the social construction and source of meaning of the Self Leadership of Generation Z; 2) study the Self-Leadership development process of Generation Z; and 3) construct a grounded theory of meaning and Self-Leadership development process of Generation Z. This research was qualitative research using the grounded theory approach for explaining the phenomena and constructing theoretical conclusions. The researcher gathered data by conducting in-depth interviews with 17 Generation Z Teenagers born since 1995 and studying in a university in Bangkok by theoretical sampling. The research tool was open-end questions, then data was analyzed with analytic induction to construct concept and theory, categorized and narrated with descriptive analysis.
The results showed that Generation Z gave meanings and source of meanings of Self Leadership that can be categorized in 4 groups of meaning; Self-Awareness, Self-Efficacy, Self-Management, and Self-Confidence. They conducted the Self-Leadership Development Process: 1) Self and Environmental Assessment, 2) Planning and targeting for Self-Leadership development, 3) Searching and learning from good role models, 4) Conducting Self-Leadership development, and 5) Evaluation. Finally, this research constructed theoretical conclusions, discussed and suggested ways to improve the Self-Leadership of the new generations including suggestions for research in the future.
