Abstract

The purposes of this study were 1) to study the creative leadership characteristics of primary school students, and 2) to examine the school management developing the creative leadership of primary school students. This study was a mixed methods research. The sample comprised primary schools under the Office of Basic Education Commission of Thailand which the school administrators, teachers and students participated in the study. The research instruments were a self-assessment and a questionnaire. The data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, average, standard deviation and content analysis.

The research indicated the following two significant results: 1) The creative leadership characteristics of primary school students consisted of six factors. These factors are: (1) cognitive abilities and enlightenment, (2) creative personality, (3) courage, (4) empowerment, (5) passion for tasks and success oriented, and (6) well-rounded knowledge. The results from the creative leadership assessment of all school groups are closely co-related. The most significant characteristic that determines creative leadership in a student is the fifth characteristic – the passion for tasks and success oriented. The characteristic least likely to be a factor is a creative personality, especially the emotional intelligence. 2) Most of the current school management methods to develop the creative leadership of primary school students were from the collegial model and the formal model while the cultural model was the least often used. The desirable school management methods to develop the creative leadership of primary school students were identical.
