Design and Development of a Language Instructional Model Based on the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) Approach Integrated with Multimedia to Enhance Malay Language Communication Skills for Mathayomsuksa 2 Students

Abstract

This research consists purposes were to design and develop a Malay language instructional model based on the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) approach combined with multimedia to meet the 75/75 efficiency criterion. This study employed a quantitative research design. The research instruments consisted of lesson plans on the topic Fun Vocabulary developed using a teaching model based on the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) approach combined with multimedia; an evaluation form assessing the appropriateness of the teaching model and a 20-item multiple-choice test. The sample comprised 35 Grade 8 (MathayomSuksa 2) students at Phatthanasat Witthaya Tha Raeng School, selected through simple random sampling. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including percentage, mean and standard deviation, as well as a dependent samples t-test. The findings revealed that the Malay language instructional model based on the CLT approach integrated with multimedia consisted of five stages 1) introduction 2) content presentation 3) practice 4) language use for communication and 5) conclusion. The overall appropriateness of the instructional model was at the highest level (x̄ = 4.78). Furthermore, the efficiency of the instructional model was 75.00/86.00 (E1/E2), which met the established criterion of 75/75.
