Developing Basic First Aid Competencies of Teachers in Nachuak District Maha Sarakham Province

Abstract

This research consists purposes were 1. to develop teachers in Na Chueak District Maha Sarakham Province by enhancing their knowledge and understanding of basic first aid 2. to develop teachers in Na Chueak District Maha Sarakham Province by enhancing their competency in providing basic first aid and 3. to investigate the satisfaction of teachers in Na Chueak District Maha Sarakham Province with the competency development program in basic first aid. This study employed a mixed-methods research design, integrating both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The research instruments consisted of a knowledge test, interview protocol, observation form, competency assessment form, satisfaction questionnaire and supervision and follow-up record form. The sample and target participants comprised 14 teachers who voluntarily expressed their interest and consented to participate in the competency development program. The data collected from the research instruments were analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis with statistical software, including percentage, mean and standard deviation, while the qualitative data obtained from the interviews were analyzed using content analysis. The finding revealed that 1) The implementation of the workshop strategy significantly enhanced teachers' knowledge and understanding of basic first aid. All participating teachers demonstrated higher post-development knowledge scores than their pre-development scores. Overall, their level of development was classified as very high, with an average improvement of 76.63% 2) Teachers' competency in providing basic first aid improved progressively throughout the competency development program. During Cycle 1, the overall level of competency was rated as good. Following the implementation of the supervision and follow-up strategy in Cycle 2, teachers' competency further improved to an overall level of very good (x̅= 4.88, S.D. = 0.16) and 3) Teachers in Na Chueak District Maha Sarakham Province reported the highest level of satisfaction with the basic first aid competency development program. Overall satisfaction was rated at the highest level (x̅= 4.65, S.D. = 0.20).
