Study The Legend of Pu Uelue Nagaraj and the Bun Duean Sam Tradition Bueng Khong Long Sub-district Bueng Khong Long District Bueng Kan Province To Create Dance Composition Titled Pasangsa Naka Uelue

Abstract

This research consists purposes were 1. to investigate the legend of Pu Uelue Nagaraj in relation to the Boon Duean Sam (Third Lunar Month Merit-Making Festival) in Bueng Khong Long Sub-district Bueng Khong Long District Bueng Kan Province and 2. to Create Dance Composition Titled Pasangsa Naka Uelue. This study employed a qualitative research design. The research instrument was an unstructured interview. The key informants consisted of three participants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected from relevant documentary sources and unstructured interviews and subsequently analyzed using content analysis. The findings revealed that 1) The legend states that the Bueng Khong Long area was originally a city called Ratphanakhon, ruled by King Uelue. His grandson, Prince Farung, married Nang Nakarinthani, the daughter of a Naga king who transformed into a human to bridge the relationship between the human world and the underworld. They lived together for three years but had no children. Later, she fell ill and accidentally transformed back into a Naga. She terrified the townspeople and banished her back to the underworld. The Naga king was furious because the family's regalia he had given her were not returned. He then led his army to destroy the city of Ratphanakhon, leaving only three temples intact. The destroyed city became Bueng Long Khong which later evolved into Bueng Khong Long in modern times. King Uelue was cursed to become a Naga, guarding this lake forever until a new city is built, at which point the curse will be lifted. Today, the villagers have developed a faith in him, leading to the Bun Duean Sam (Third Month Festival) tradition, with people flocking to worship him and 2) Create Dance Composition titled Pasangsa Naga Uelue which includes composing new lyrics and melodies and designing costumes to visually represent the story of Grandfather Uelue Naga in the Bun Duean Sam tradition.
