Work Motivation Affecting Organizational Commitment of Officials in the Office of the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Transport

Abstract

This research consists purposes were 1. to examine work motivation and organizational commitment among personnel under the Office of the Permanent Secretary for Transport 2. to compare organizational commitment classified by personal factors and 3. to study the influence of work motivation on organizational commitment among the personnel. This research was conducted using a quantitative approach. The research instrument was a questionnaire. The sample group consisted of 187 personnel under the Office of the Permanent Secretary for Transport. The sample size was determined using Taro Yamane (1973) formula. Data collected from the questionnaires were analyzed using statistical methods, including mean, standard deviation, t-test, F-test (ANOVA) and multiple regression analysis. The results revealed that 1) The level of work motivation among personnel under the Office of the Permanent Secretary for Transport was found to be high across all aspects (x̄ = 4.01, S.D. = 0.46). Similarly, their organizational commitment was also rated at a high level across all dimensions (x̄ = 3.93, S.D. = 0.50) 2) A comparison of work motivation among personnel under the Office of the Permanent Secretary for Transport, categorized by gender, age, position, years of service, and income, revealed statistically significant differences at the 0.05 level in all factors except for position, which showed no significant difference. In terms of organizational commitment, differences by age, position, and income were not statistically significant, while years of service showed a statistically significant difference at the 0.05 level and 3) Work motivation had a moderate overall influence on organizational commitment among personnel under the Office of the Permanent Secretary for Transport. It could predict organizational commitment at a rate of 78.1%, with statistical significance at the 0.01 level.
