The Development of a Skill Practice Set of Kong-Wong-Yai Playing for First-Year Student in the College of Music at Mahasarakham University

Abstract

This research consists purposes were 1. to develop a basic set of exercises for playing the Kong-Wong-Yai for first-year students at the College of Music Mahasarakham University with an effectiveness criterion of 80/80 2. to study the practical skills of playing the large gong of the first-year students at the College of Music Mahasarakham University and 3. to investigate the students' satisfaction with the basic set of exercises for playing the Kong-Wong-Yai. This is a mixed research between qualitative and quantitative research The research instruments consisted of a basic gong playing skills exercise form, a gong playing skills assessment form and a satisfaction assessment questionnaire. The sample group consisted of 15 first-year students of the College of Music Mahasarakham University who studied in the Basic Thai Music Skills course in the first semester of the 2023 academic year which was obtained by purposive selection The data collected from the questionnaires were analyzed using descriptive statistics including percentages, means, standard deviations and comparisons using t-tests. The data collected from the documents and the skill exercises were analyzed content analysis. The research results found that 1) The efficiency of the basic gong playing skill training kit for first-year students at the College of Music Mahasarakham University was 76.88/85.11 which met the standard criteria of 80/80 2) After studying the scores of the gong playing skills were significantly higher than before studying. The results of the assessment of the gong playing skills before studying were an average score of 8.00 and after studying were an average score of 13.07 (out of 15 points) and 3) The satisfaction of the students with the basic gong playing skill training kit for first-year students at the College of Music Mahasarakham University was overall at a high level (x̅= 4.18, S.D.= 0.74).
