Abstract

This research consists purposes were 1. to study the identity of Kru Thongsai Thapthanon's Isan lute performance and instruction 2. to study the physical structure identity of Kru Thongsai Thapthanon's lute and 3. to study the preservation of the Isan lute culture of Kru Thongsai Thapthanon. This is a qualitative research The research instruments used are a structured interview form and an observation form. The target group of the research is 6 people who were selected purposively the information gathered from interview forms Observational form and related documents were then content analysis. The research results found that 1) The identity of Kru Thongsai Thapthanon's lute performance consisted of playing techniques, playing notes on the lute’s fingerboard, tuning the strings, and accessories for the performance. The instruction of Isan lute playing started with accepting students and transferring knowledge by defining the content consisting of theories and practices by demonstrating and letting the students follow. Additional techniques for playing were inserted and the students' apprehension was evaluated according to the set criteria 2) For the physical structure identity of the Isan lute, it was found that the most easily observed characteristic was the lotus shape, which indicates the identity of the people of Ubon Ratchathani. Kru Thongsai's Isan lute can be divided into three types: acoustic lute, electric lute, and electric acoustic lute. The use of local materials and equipment to be applied in the manufacturing process of the lute is emphasized. Kru Thongsai's lute is widely spoken and widely known because he initially modified the acoustic lute to the electric lute and electric acoustic lute respectively and 3) The roles of preserving the Isan lute culture of Kru Thongsai Thapthanon consisted of the role in social service in art and culture, the role in providing knowledge in arts and culture, and the role in leading the change in music culture in Isan in order to preserve and inherit the intellectual heritage.
