Development of Grade 9 Students' English Reading Comprehension Achievement Through the Use of Reciprocal Teaching and Gamification

The purpose of this research were 1. to investigate grade 9 students’ English reading comprehension achievement before and after using reciprocal teaching and gamification and 2. to investigate students’ opinion toward the use of reciprocal teaching and gamification. This study is a form of quantitative research. The following research instruments were used (1) lesson plans using reciprocal teaching and gamification (2) an English reading comprehension achievement test and (3) a questionnaire surveying students’ opinion toward the use of reciprocal teaching and gamification. The research sample was 28 students from Wat Pratumkanavat (Nipathirinnasut) School who were enrolled in the English course (E23101) during the first semester of the 2023 academic year and were selected by cluster sampling. Then the data collected from the research tools were analyzed using descriptive statistics consisting of percentage, mean, and standard deviation. and compared by t-test. The results of the research were as follows: 1) the students’ English reading comprehension achievement after using reciprocal teaching and gamification was higher than before at the .05 significance level and 2) the students’ opinion toward the use of reciprocal teaching and gamification was at a high level (x̅= 4.07, SD = 0.74).
