Guidelines for Creating Thai Dance to Present National Costumes.

Abstract

This research consists purposes were to study a concept of Thai dramas and factors that earn Best National Costume Award. is qualitative research. The research tool was an interview form with a target group of 12 people selected through purposive sampling, consisting of (1) 5 personnel with expertise in Thai dance and (2) Thai dance performers 7 personnel. The information gathered from related documents interview forms were then content analysis. The study results indicated that dramas introducing costumes were expected to enter Thailand around 1929-1976, and fashionable clothes were presented. Characteristics and skills of clothes presenters were determined and emphasis was placed on their shapes and personalities. A fashion show and dancing art were apparently consistent with regard to musical rhythmic skills, body alignment skills, emotional expression skills through postures and gestures of presenters. Components required were a concept created that leads to work creation should be new and able to present Thai uniqueness explicitly, gestures used must be appropriate to clothes so that an outstanding image of clothes can be built. Clothes must be designed to be suitable for persons who wear. They should be easy to wear, meet the personalities of those who wear them, able to present the Thainess completely. In case a device supplementing a performance is required, it should be a device that can effectively communicate the meaning, not being an obstacle for the presentation. Directions and positions on the stage must be chosen to ensure audiences are able to clearly see details of the clothes. Emotional expression must be communicated through facial expressions with a variety of emotions, depending on clothes to be presented.
