The Recall of the Memories and Reestablishment of Traditional Cultures: A Case Study of Sahasakhan District Kalasin Province.

Abstract

The purposes of the current study were to introduce a guideline for reestablishing community memories in Sahasakhan District, Kalasin province and to reestablish traditional cultures in the area. The study was conducted with a qualitative approach. 126 targets were selected purposively. They were divided into 2 groups of community leaders and the displaced. The former includes 6 community leaders who were the chief executive officers of the Non Sila subdistrict administration organization, village heads, and Buddhist abbots.  The latter includes 120 displaced people who lived in the Ban Non Sila (village) area and moved to Sahasakhan District after the construction of the Lam Pao dam.  The instruments were a document analysis and an interview. The data were analyzed using content analysis. The results of the study indicate that 1) 6 ceremonies including the New year ceremony, Songkran Festival, Ramwong Khong Ka activities, Devorohana Offering, Bun Khaochi Tradition, and Thanon Sai Bun Activities were held to recall local memories in Sahasakhan District; 2) In terms of the reestablishment of the traditional cultures, it was found that the 5 groups of religious leaders, community leaders, local organization leaders, local philosophers, and educational institution administrators took part in hosting the activity called Media Ontour in Cultural Tourism Style. A tourism route was designed to promote 5 famous tourist attractions in the district including Wat Phutthawat Phu Sing, Wat Phuttha Nimit (Wat Phu Khao), Lampao Dam, Sufficient Economy Village, and Sirintorn Dinosaur Museum.
