The Development of Improvisation Exercise Using Cooperative Learning for Trumpet.

Abstract

The purposes of the current study were 1. to develop a trumpet improvisation exercise using cooperative learning that could reach the determined criterion of 80/80 and 2. to improve students’ trumpet improvisation skills at the determined criterion using the developed exercise. The study was conducted in an experimental design. The instruments were (1) a trumpet improvisation exercise using cooperative learning (2) pre and post-tests, and (3) on-process skill tests. The participants were 6 undergraduate students majoring in trumpet in the Faculty of Arts, Khon Kaen University selected by the developed evaluation test. The experiment consisted of 16 hours of 8 sessions within 8 hours. The data were analyzed using percentages, mean scores, standard deviation, and a t-test. The results of the study show that 1) the effectiveness index of the trumpet improvisation exercise using cooperative learning was 83.33/86.66 reaching the determining criterion of 80/80; 2) the participants’ trumpet improvisation skills after learning the developed exercise were significantly higher than before the treatment with the statistical value at .06. It could be interpreted that 60 percent of participants’ skills were improved.
