The Creation of Folk Performances in Forn Bru Cha Pra Upagupta.

Abstract

This research consists purposes to create a traditional dance performance to worship Pra Upagupta in the Boon Phawet tradition of the Roi Et Province. It was qualitative research; the tools were the observation form and the interview form. A research target group were 36 people in total consisted of 6 experts, 10 practitioners, and 20 general people from specific selections. The data collected from documents, interview forms and observation forms were used for content analysis.the results showed that creation of folk performances, Fon Bru Cha Pra Upagupta comes from the procession of Pra Upagupta at the Bun Phawet event, Roi Et Province with the devotion and faith in Pra Upagupta which is like a monk who suppresses the evil and eliminating all dangers away, thus creating a strong faith that respects. The characteristics of the creation of dance performances to worship Pra Upagupta consisted of 1) concepts of showing all the faith and respect to Pra Upagupta 2) formulation of performances, traditional dance to worship Pra Upagupta along with the procession event 3) performers can be 6-8 people 4) music and background music comes from a recreation of folk music to represent the belief and faith of Buddhist to Pra Upagupta 5) costumes, inspire from Isaan traditional dresses and the show suitability 6) dance moves, separate into 2 types which is the Isaan core’s moves and the new created moves 7) movement, arrange everypart of the show the makes the dimension for each moves  and 8) equipment, which is represent the faith and respect. Therefore, the creative form of the performance is a folk performance to worship Pra Upagupta The show is set to accompany the Pra Upagupta procession. It represents respect and faith for Pra Upagupta to worship and joyful celebrations in accordance with the identity of the Isaan people.
