Development of Local Curriculum on Coconut in Thaka Thepsuwanchanwittaya School Amphawa District in Samutsongkhram Province Through Participatory Action Research.

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to 1. to study local knowledge about coconut in Thaka, Amphawa District, in Samutsongkhram Province and 2.to develop local curriculum on Coconut in Thaka, for Thepsuwanchanwittaya School, Amphawa District, in Samutsongkhram Province Through Participatory Action Research. It is a blend of qualitative and quantitative research. There were research instruments, including field records, opinion questionnaire, interview and achievement test. And there are 67 target groups who come from purposive sampling. The data that collected from questionnaires were analyzed using descriptive statistics consisting of percentage, mean and standard deviation. And the data that collected from the documents interview forms and recorded forms were used for content analysis. The results of this study show that: 1) The local knowledge on coconut in Thaka, Amphawa District, in Samutsongkhram Province consists of (1) Tha Kha sub-district context. And (2) coconut in Thaka: there are three issues such as (1) History of coconut cultivation in Thaka, (2) Coconut varities in Thaka. and (3) Occupation from the use of different parts of the coconut. And 2) The development of local curriculum on coconut in Thaka, Amphawa District, in Samutsongkhram Province consisting of the structure of curriculum, local learning, learning units and learning management plan is suitable and consistent with the local environment and suitable for students. The result of this research that there is higher score of aftering test than the previous 28.34 percent.The evaluation of the local curriculum from stakeholders is the students are conscious, recognize and appreciate the coconuts and their careers. The students are able to apply the knowledge gained from taking this course and can be applied in life.
